Have you got an interview for an estate agent position? It’s common that you’re probably feeling a bit nervous about the sorts of questions that you might want to ask. The team at Pear Recruitment can help and we have put together a number of frequently asked questions during the interview process. We’re committed to offering you the advice and help that you need to land the role. With our wealth of experience working in the property industry, we have an intimate knowledge of the recruitment process and the sorts of people that estate agencies are looking for. Here are some of the questions that you should consider asking.
What Skills do you Feel are the Most Important for an Estate Agent?
By asking this, it really tells an interviewer what you consider important to the role and the sort of skills that you’ll bring to the role. This is particularly important because there’s no set path to get into a career as an estate agent. So, it’s important you show the areas that you’re strongest in and how they can relate to the position.
For example, you might want to tell the interviewer about how important it is to listen to your clients and understand what their needs are. This is an important skill to have because matching the right clients to the right properties is a key way to make a successful sale. Other skills that you can talk about are organisation, communication, photography and copywriting.
How Do You Manage Both in and Out of Office Tasks?
This is another important question because your time management skills are key to staying on top of your workload; including potential viewings or open days. You’ll be spending a lot of time both in and out of the office, so it’s important that you have good time management skills and the ability to multitask. Some days you’ll be doing a lot of office work, other days you’ll be back to back home tours.
You’ll need to be able to stay on top of all these tasks, keeping your clients in the loop and content throughout your working week. As a result, this question is a great way for you to show off how you organise yourself and be on time with all of your skills. Everyone has different skills and ways of keeping on top of things, and your interviewer will be keen to know how you handle this.
What Types of Technology Do You Use When Selling?
Piggybacking off the last question, your interviewer will want to know how you’ll be able to sell homes in the modern world. Online media has become increasingly important, so knowing how to use these outlets is so important for your career. For example, a listing without high-quality photos and good descriptions will be viewed with suspicion.
This is why these sorts of skills are so important for you. Take your time with this question, allowing you to show your interviewer how you use modern technology to improve your sales skills. Not only are you showing your understanding of technology but also your understanding of the industry as a whole. Importantly, this will mean that you’re likely to close more sales, which is always good for an estate agency.
