The property sector is made up of numerous different job roles and the opportunities within this industry are incredibly varied. On the whole, the property industry is known for offering progression and reward for hard work, making it very popular amongst people of all ages and from all walks of life. There tends to be the perfect job role for everyone within this sector and it is just a matter of finding what’s right for you and your skillset.

It is easy to see why so many people are tempted by a career in the property industry these days and if this is something that you’re considering then it is useful to learn a little bit more about what is out there job-wise. To give you a useful insight into the vast range of different roles available, below we have looked into what are arguably some of the most popular and frequently sought-after jobs, and who would be good at them.

Estate agent

This is probably the job that the industry is most well-known for and estate agent jobs are incredibly popular. As you probably already know, an estate agent is responsible for arranging the selling of properties and they will also help prospective buyers find their new home too. This is undeniably a brilliant role for someone who is an outgoing people-person with previous sales experience. When starting as a trainee estate agent, there is so much room for progression too.

Property manager

Lots of people will have heard of property management companies and if you’ve ever lived in a rented property, then you might have dealt with them directly in the past too. Think of a property manager as the middle man between a property owner and a renter, as the name suggests, they are responsible for managing the property. This is a great role for a problem-solver with good communication skills and who is incredibly organised.

Lettings negotiator

Often, people get an estate agent and a lettings negotiator confused, but a lettings negotiator only works with rented properties. They are responsible for finding new tenants for rented properties and they will generally help landlords rent their properties. Similarly to an estate agent, this is a job that is well suited to a confident person and you need to be very personable. When working with both landlords and renters, you also need to be adaptable as well.

Property valuer

This job role is fairly self-explanatory and a property valuer will carry out inspections and assessments to help determine the current market value of a property. Their valuation reports help homeowners decide how much they should put their property on the market for. Often, valuers are responsible for gaining new instructions for estate agencies, so they need to have a friendly manner and be able to build a rapport with people.

New homes sales consultant

Whilst again, this job is similar to an estate agent, a new homes sales consultant solely focus on new build properties. They are responsible for the sales process involved with purchasing new builds and they will also have to identify and maximise new homes sales opportunities. In order to be a successful new home sales consultant, you will need to be a very good salesperson and have excellent communication and time management skills.
