When people discuss the property industry, they tend only to discuss the role of an estate agent, but there are so many different roles in the industry. Here at Pear Recruitment, we specialise in connecting excellent employers with even more exceptional candidates. We know the industry inside out and we’re committed to making sure that those looking to enter a career in property find the job that they’re best suited to. So if you’re interested in working in property but not necessarily here for being an estate agent, then this post can help you.

An Estate Agent

While this post is mainly about other roles, it would be remiss of us to not discuss the role of an estate agent. This is one of the key roles in the industry as it assists both buyers and sellers in their transactions. An estate agent has a number of different roles that generally makes the concept of buying and selling a house really easy.

This can include marketing the properties and attracting potential buyers, connecting with potential clients and helping to answer any question they might have. But while it is a wildly varied industry, it is incredibly fulfilling. An estate agent offers their clients a platform to coordinate agreements and contracts. And there are two main types of estate agents, depending on what it is you want to do. These are residential estate agents and commercial estate agents, both of which come with their own perks.

A Letting Agent

Generally speaking, estate agents are primarily responsible for handling property sales and purchases, whereas letting agents are responsible for assisting landlords who are letting out properties. There are lots of jobs that fall under the umbrella of ‘lettings’, including lettings managers and lettings negotiators, and they’re all very rewarding.

The role of a letting agent will usually involve assisting with everything from marketing rental properties and negotiating offers between landlords and tenants to dealing with landlord queries and assisting in finding suitable tenants. Again, you can be a letting agent for both residential and commercial properties, so depending on your knowledge of the property market and your previous experience, you may find that you’re better suited to one of these roles.

A Property Manager

This is a very different role but it’s still incredibly important and well suited to a number of the job seekers that we work with. A property manager is responsible for the care of a property, or lots of properties, on a financial and physical basis. While they usually don’t own the property, they are the point of contact for the tenants rather than the landlord.

This means that you should have a firm knowledge of the rental properties in the area and the legal requirements for rentals. Having this knowledge is so important for making sure that your tenants are really well looked after. Your most important role is making sure that the tenants are completely satisfied with their property. You’ll need to possess strong communication skills to connect with your tenants.
