Walking into an interview is a nerve-wracking experience, but there are some ways that not only help you to be more confident but also allow you to stand out from the crowd. Here at Pear Recruitment, we specialise in working within the property industry, helping to connect excellent candidates with great companies.

Our years of experience can help to launch you on a long-lasting career with companies that feel like family. We have taken this opportunity to put together some key tips to becoming a successful candidate.

  • Be Prepared for your Interview

This is a pre-interview tip that most people know but it cannot be underestimated. Don’t just take the time to read the job description, take the time to learn all you can about the company. This might sound like a lot of work, but it is really worth it. Make sure that you pay special attention to information that you can find about those who are interviewing. If you’re not sure who will be interviewing you, feel free to ask the HR employee in charge of your interview.

Once you know who they are then you can look them up on LinkedIn for example to find out a little more about the company ethos. This information can make all the difference to your interview as it not only ensures that you feel prepared but it also shows that you are interested in the job and dedicated enough to do the extra work.

  • Be Enthusiastic but Not Too Much

Enthusiasm is definitely something that employers look for because it shows interest in the job and that you’ll likely be a good fit for the company. But it is important that you try and avoid being too enthusiastic. Keep your tone professional, keep your handshake firm and avoid coming off as fake or nervous. This might seem like an overwhelming balance, but you can definitely strike it just by practising the answer to any questions that you might get asked.

You can do this by working with a friend or family member or you can work with one of our highly-regarded recruiters. One of the key benefits of working with us is that we know what many of our clients are looking for and can tell you when you need to add more enthusiasm or perhaps reign it in just a little bit.

  • Plan Answer for Questions you Might be Asked

In almost every interview, you’ll find yourself facing that one question; tell me a bit about yourself. This is such a frustrating question, what do you say? What do they want to know? It’s unlikely they want to know your favourite colour. But don’t start to panic, it’s actually an easy enough question if you’re prepared for it.

Let them know what drew you to the property industry and what makes you an ideal candidate for their company. So prepare the right answer for that. Be concise by informative and make sure you’re confident with it. This will give your answer a sense of confidence, which is the perfect place to start your interview.
